PERSONALITY QUESTIONS:

What skills does your character bring to the situation?

Most of the skills possessed by a highly skilled assassin and spy aren't exactly going to be useful in the less-than-urban environs of the island, but there are a few which will translate well enough. For starters, Natasha Romanoff can murder a man with a pumpkin vine seventeen ways without breaking a sweat. No, but seriously, she's a highly skilled fighter and proficient with a variety of martial arts styles and weapons; many of those weapons are guns, which of course she's going to be lacking in this environment, but she's far from helpless without them. She's also fairly proficient in poisons and the creation and dosing thereof, which translates in this case to recognizing plants that can murder someone, or at least make them very, very ill. She's had basic triage and first-aid training, as well, enough to keep a target alive until backup arrives, and a certain amount of survival training for different climates. Her hacking/computer systems and driving skills are perhaps the most irrelevant to the current state of affairs, but might be relevant further down the line, if more of the Observers' tech is discovered. Her most valuable skill, however, despite the first aid and fighting, is honestly her adaptability. She's a quick learner, she's good with people (both manipulating them in efficient ways to achieve an end and also finding ways to connect with them; in a different universe, she could have been a decent therapist, though she's always taken the clinical detachment parts of that to extremes), she's focused and driven and will definitely learn to survive by any means necessary. She may never be a farm girl, but she'll do what she has to to get by.

Why did you choose this specific character for 6I, and how do you picture them fitting into the game?

Real talk: I missed playing Natasha, and literally every time I've found a game that has a. an interesting premise that I wouldn't get tired of in 5 minutes, and b. any semblance of an MCU cast, Nat is always, always taken. I don't need a cast to play with, far from it; cross-canon CR is my favorite thing about Dreamwidth RP. But I've always wanted a chance to play her off of castmates as well as new CR, and see how she evolves in contrast to the people she's familiar with. Also: please let Natasha Romanoff have friendships with women, Marvel apparently is allergic to women existing in groups in their films and so I must seek these things out through RP.

THAT SAID, Natasha is a city girl at heart, and I think it's going to be great seeing her in the woods in this rustic settlement. Throw in the bunker, hints of aliens or whatever, some grand conspiracy plot, all the general weirdness that's going on, and she'll be interested enough to pursue the heck out of the metaplot while still being just off-balance enough that I don't have to worry about not feeling like I'm smart enough to play her when she doesn't solve the mystery in the first week she's here. I think she's flexible enough to adapt to her surroundings, and it'll be interesting to see how she makes herself useful to the settlement and the kind of people she chooses to surround herself with. Natasha can be any number of things to any number of people, frequently all at the same time, and it's going to be fun when it finally sinks in that there is no leaving this place or these people, and she's going to have to make some choices about who exactly she wants to be here in a more permanent sense.

How do you imagine your character will survive in 6I, and in what ways will they contribute to the settlement, if any?

The short answer? By any means necessary. Make friends with the people who know how to hunt and fish, get in good with the people farming crops. Natasha is all about human resource management. She knows how to use people to their best advantage as well as hers. Her skills aren't all suited for this kind of place; ultimately, she's a spy, an assassin, and a place like this doesn't really have room for someone like her, she'll think. But Natasha has spent her life learning to survive whatever it takes, and that means adapting. I think ultimately she'll end up falling in with other folks who are more tactically-minded and inclined towards planning village defense, part of whatever passes for a guard around here, and also most likely with whatever teams are researching the bunker and other signs of whoever brought everyone here together. She's good at rooting out the heart of conspiracies, and I think she'll actually enjoy the idea of the puzzle, once she gets over the shock of being here.

How will your character react to...

Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable?

What, you mean Tuesday? No, seriously. Natasha's entire life, her entire career, has revolved around being able to maintain a certain amount of detachment, a willingness to give up the known and comfortable for the unknown and dangerous. It will help that there are familiar faces here, but she knows firsthand that familiar faces being around now is no guarantee they'll be around forever. She's always prepared to lose what she has, even if she's still getting used to it actually hurting. She's never had powers to lose, but she's had people, and it's not something she's unused to.

Their environment being manipulated, possibly in strange or extraordinary ways, and possibly in ways which restrain them?

So the Thursday special, then. Honestly, after the events of the last few years, ever since the attack on New York, environmental manipulation isn't all that strange. Magic is real, wormholes to other worlds are basically on every other block, gods exist, this is just how the world is now. Strange and exciting new ways for the world to go weird and reality to get pulled sideways out from under her might take a minute or two to adapt, but honestly during her time with the Avengers, there isn't much Natasha hasn't seen, or can't imagine. Restraint, on the other hand, is never an easy thing for her. She does not do well with captivity that isn't by choice, as one might expect, and there's a certain amount of prowling that's going to be done when she realizes she's stuck here, but honestly, she'll do what she always does: adapt, wait, watch for her opportunity to change the situation in her favor.

Being physically and/or mentally manipulated, such as having hallucinations or suddenly possessing special abilities they did not have before?

Natasha's no stranger to mental manipulation, or even hallucinations. Aside from her comprehensive training in the Red Room, learning to withstand various types of psychological torture and emotional manipulation, learning how to counter interrogation techniques, she's got a fairly resilient psyche--but she's not unassailable, as her first encounter with the Scarlet Witch proved. It's not something she likes. That's more than likely an understatement. The only person in her head should be her, and the only person pulling her strings should be her, and she's not going to react kindly if she learns that someone else has been pulling those strings. She's likely to take action of her own if the culprit is someone who can be reached, too, very violent action, but whatever happens to her mentally or physically, she'll recover. She's good at compartmentalization and processing. She's had to be. Powers and special abilities will be something entirely new for her; she's always been very very good at a lot of things, but those are peak human levels, not supernatural ones. At least she won't react badly to them. New abilities are just new resources to be used to her advantage, nothing more and nothing less.

The tower doesn't see very many quiet days. Even fewer quiet nights, honestly, and it's enough to make her itchy. So, in lieu of world-destroying robots and/or alien menaces presenting themselves, Natasha takes matters into her own hands and makes the executive decision, dropping gracefully into the end of the couch currently occupied by one Steve Rogers, reading the paper.

"Hey, Rogers. You have anything nice to wear? Your Sunday best, but less ice-cream-social."

Enclosed in a small bundle behind a panel in her dance studio are the following letters. Natasha would have mentioned the space to Beverly some time in the last two months, just in case. If they stay, assume the following contingency letters make it to their labeled intendeds.

Doctor Crusher )
